CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Albemarle Police have a 23-year old county resident in custody after a pursuit that started Sunday afternoon with an attempt of a traffic stop. Police say an Albemarle officer attempted the stop on Fashion Square Drive shortly after 5pm Sunday, and the driver instead fled onto Seminole Trail.

At the Rio Road interchange, the suspect reportedly crossed over the median into westbound Rio Road, striking two vehicles. The suspect then jumped out of the car and ran, and was quickly apprehended after a foot chase. Once in custody, police found Tyrik Alloyd Ayers was wanted on several warrants in the county.

He and one of three others in the collisions were taken to UVa with minor injuries, and two were treated at the scene.

Charges are pending.
