Glenn Quick used to brag about growing up in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where people are friendly and you can leave your doors unlocked. Then his brother Kevin, a Waynesboro Police Reserve Captain, left Afton for Charlottesville only to be abducted and murdered. In an exclusive interview with WINA News, the former Harrisonburg police officer, who’s now a federal agent, said he was shocked to see it happen in this part of the state. “I’ve always bragged about where I grew up at, where my parents live at, how people are friendly, they’re nice. Heck, you don’t have to lock your house. I used to brag about that, and for something like this to happen just totally shakes up your whole belief system about your community.” He says if any crime justifies the death penalty, it’s the death of his brother, but he doubts US Attorney General Eric Holder will pursue it. A Facebook page has been set up to support Daniel Mathis, Shantai Shelton and Mersadies Shelton, the three Albemarle siblings who, along with a fourth suspect, are charged with Kevin Quick’s murder. Glenn Quick said a page such as that feels like an insult. “Words can’t describe how sad it is that our society accepts this kind of behavior. They justify it, they think it’s okay, and they turn it around to where they’re victims. It’s horrible how many people don’t care about each other anymore.” Quick says he will attend the trial of his brother’s alleged killers and the other five defendents charged in connection with Kevin Quick’s death as many days as he possibly can.
