Albemarle Continues To Wrestle With Policy For Volunteer Firefighters

The debate continues over a firefighter policy in Albemarle. Paid firefighters are not allowed to serve as volunteers with various county fire stations. Preston Gentry (pictured), who’s the chief of the Crozet Fire Department, has told the County Supervisors how the policy impacts recruitment of volunteers. Supervisors chairwoman Jane Dittmar recently spoke to a battalion chief in a Richmond suburb who says they hire first from the ranks of volunteers.
