CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Albemarle Police are working what they now say is a fatal vehicle crash that has closed a portion of Route 53 involving a fallen tree.
53 is closed between Route 20 and Milton Road, and is expected to be closed for several hours.

Albemarle Police say they got the report of a two-vehicle crash around 8:45, and it remains under investigation. One individual has been declared dead at the scene, and another is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and give crews space to continue working.
