What is Wordplay?
Wordplay is a team-based trivia competition for people who love words, vocabulary, pop culture, history, and literature, and showing off their smarts. Each team comprises three people from a local business or organization. The audience is invited to play along and cheer for their favorite team!
Who benefits?
Wordplay is the annual fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle. LVCA is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes adult literacy through equitable, inclusive, free, confidential, one-to-one English and Citizenship tutoring. Funds raised through Wordplay support adult learners as they achieve their educational goals.
How do we participate?
The early-bird rate for team sponsorship starts at $600 until February 14; after that, team sponsorship starts at $750. Teams can pay online here, send a check, or use crowdsourcing to raise their fees. Sponsors can also donate in-kind goods of the same value in place of their team fee. Sponsorships without team participation are also available.
How can I participate if I don’t have a team?
Audience members are invited to play along and cheer on their favorite teams. Audience tickets are just $20 and can be purchased at The Paramount’s box office, online through The Paramount, or LVCA’s office.
