Go ahead and mark your calendar for Saturday, June 6th, because the Virginia Black Bear Festival is taking over downtown Stanardsville from 10 AM to 4 PM… and it’s one of those events that just feels like Central Virginia.
This festival celebrates everything that makes our region special—from the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the wildlife that calls it home… including, yes… the stars of the show… black bears.
Now, before you worry—this isn’t about getting too close to the bears… it’s about learning, exploring, and appreciating the outdoors that surrounds us here in Central Virginia, including nearby Shenandoah National Park and the legendary Appalachian Trail.
The Virginia Black Bear Festival is a free, family-friendly event, and they’ve packed the day with things to see and do.
We’re talking live music, clogging, line dancing, and even a drum circle… plus storytelling and interactive activities for the kids.
If you’ve got a little adventurer in your life, there’s rock wall climbing and slacklining, along with wildlife and nature organizations on hand sharing hands-on experiences and education.
And of course… it wouldn’t be a festival without food. You’ll find food trucks, local vendors, artisan crafts, and yes… even some bear-themed treats sprinkled throughout the day.
There’s even a chainsaw artist—which is always one of those “how are they doing that?” moments you just have to see in person.
It all happens in downtown Stanardsville, and it’s one of those perfect ways to kick off June—getting outside, soaking up the mountain air, and celebrating the wild side of Virginia right here in our backyard.
So, grab the family, bring your curiosity, and get ready for a day that’s equal parts fun, fresh air, and just a little bit… bear-y unforgettable.
