The Earlysville, Virginia Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Champ Lawson Jr. – Douglas Hall Kirby Post 2044, will host a patriotic Memorial Day Program at 10:00 a.m. across from the Earlysville Post Office.
The Second Wind Band from the Senior Center will play patriotic music, including your favorite Sousa marches 15 minutes prior to and after the ceremony.
The ceremony will begin with the posting of our national colors by Boy Scout Troop 75 followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem by Nicole Eades.
The keynote address will be given by Col. Joel Jenkins (retired).
Following the keynote address, members of the VFW, the Elks Lodge, and the American Legion will place wreaths on the parking lot median to commemorate veterans who lost their lives in defense of the country.
There will then be a Three Rifle Volley by a USAR Color Guard.
Boy Scout Troop 75 will retire the colors.
Lastly, the ceremony will be closed by the moving and haunting playing of the Dueling Taps. Taps as many of us know was written by a soldier in the Civil War and has become the closing music for every military funeral and most Memorial Day ceremonies.
The VFW Post 2044 has presented this program for over a decade, and we believe it is a fitting tribute to all our veterans at a time when our soldiers, sailors and airmen are too often forgotten.
We look forward to seeing you at our patriotic celebration.
