Sneaker Drive with the HOWS Project
Sneaker Drive with the HOWS Project

When
Jun 1st, 2023 - Jul 1st, 2023
All Day

The HOWS Project does a lot of good for outside dogs in our area, they’re a volunteer-based nonprofit organization, working to improve the lives and well-being of outside dogs in Charlottesville and surrounding counties, but they’re doing even more for OUR environment!

Time to do a lil’ spring cleaning 🧹of your sneakers!

If you haven’t seen or heard of this fundraiser from the past few years, see below for a little more info on why the HOWS Project partner with them:

📣This sneaker drive fundraiser keeps sneakers out of landfills and reduces toxic chemicals from being released in our air and soil. All reusable sneakers from our sneaker drive fundraiser program are recirculated to secondhand markets so people can access quality, pre-owned footwear at affordable prices. All heavily used and damaged footwear is recycled to reuse materials or to convert waste into new energy.

Most people throw away their used sneakers every 125-200 days without ever thinking about recycling. Since sneakers are manufactured with materials that are not biodegradable, they remain in landfills or are incinerated, which leads to toxic chemicals in our air and soil.

The process of manufacturing sneakers produces large amounts of CO2 which contributes to the serious effects of climate change and global warming. Recycling and reusing sneakers keeps sneakers out of landfills, reduces the need for manufacturing new shoes and sneakers, and supports a growing circular economy. 📣

If you have a pair or more of sneakers to donate, please drop them off at the following locations:

👟Crate & Marrow (2035 Bond St – Shops at Stonefield/Charlottesville)

👟Local Eats (74 Joshua Lane, Palmyra)

👟Old Dominion Animal Hospital Crozet (1263 Parkview Drive, Crozet)

👟The Scrappy Elephant (1745 Allied St, Suite C, Charlottesville)

‼️ Reminder that this is for SNEAKERS ONLY, please tie all laces together and no bags in the bins

Have no sneakers to donate? No worries….

👟Help spread the word by sharing this post or sending email/texts to family and friends to let them know about the fundraiser.

👟Put a bin at/in your home/neighborhood or business. Then we can come and collect when bins are full

Happy Recycling! ♻️
