James Battaglia from the Salvation Army of Charlottesville and Kimberly Sheffield from the Jefferson School Foundation stopped by the Big Greasy Breakfast with all the details on an event to help raise awareness and funds to support the most vulnerable in our community, the unhoused.

“Sleep Out C’Ville” aims to raise critical funds for Salvation Army programs and services that support unhoused individuals in our community. This event seeks to increase public awareness about the challenges the unhoused population faces, while we foster empathy and understanding and mobilize community members to take action. By spending a night outdoors, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the difficulties faced by those without stable housing, and collectively, we can work towards creating lasting solutions and providing essential resources for those in need. The simulation includes personal stories shared by individuals who are — or have been — unhoused. A short film and brief program will further shed light on the complex realities of homelessness. Participants are encouraged to bring only the essentials that someone without a home might rely on.
