If you’re looking for a fun way to get active, connect with the community, and support an incredible cause, here’s something brand new happening right here in Charlottesville.

It’s called Shelter Smashtastic—an inaugural pickleball tournament benefiting the Shelter for Help in Emergency—and it’s happening Saturday, May 9th from 8am to 1pm at the Greencroft Club.

Now whether you’re a seasoned pickleball pro… or you’ve never picked up a paddle in your life… you are invited. All skill levels are welcome, so this is just as much about having fun as it is about a little friendly competition.

The tournament kicks off with round-robin play, where all teams get a chance to compete. From there, top teams move on to a championship bracket, while others continue in a social tournament—so everyone stays in the game and gets matched with players at their level.

And yes… there are prizes on the line for the winners.

Your registration includes tournament play, some player swag, and there will be complimentary snacks and drinks to keep you going. Plus, starting at 11am, Greencroft’s onsite restaurant opens up with a full lunch menu—so you can kick back, grab a bite, and enjoy the action from their outdoor lounge.

Spectators are welcome too, so bring your friends, bring the family, and make a morning of it.

There’s even a 50/50 raffle, giving you a chance to win while supporting a great cause.

And that cause is what makes this event truly special.

The Shelter for Help in Emergency provides critical services to survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence—offering safe housing, outreach programs, and support that empowers people to rebuild their lives.

So, every serve, every volley, every point played… helps make a real difference right here in our community.
