I love reading TMZ.com because I find out all sorts of useless information. Today, I found out something about one of the most recognizable songs from the 70’s…straight from the mouth of one of the people responsible for it… “Rich Girl,” the huge hit from future Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Famers Daryl Hall and John Oates is really about a… GUY!
According to John Oates, who was cornered in Nashville by a TMZ paparazzo, the “Rich Girl” was written by Daryl Hall about a guy who used to date Sara Allen, Hall’s girlfriend at the time (“Sara Smile”). John added that the guy was a spoiled fast food heir who was what he called a “burn out.”
So TMZ reported that it did some investigative reporting, and found out that the guy’s name is Victor Walker. His father owned a pancake house in Chicago along with 15 KFC franchises.
According to John, when Daryl wrote the song, he knew that “Rich Guy” wouldn’t fly.
…and that’s your useless pop culture fact of the day!
