There’s a sucker born every minute
There’s a sucker born every minute

P.T. Barnum once said “There’s a sucker born every minute.” Imagine what he would say today with the ongoing controversy surrounding Duck Dynasty. If you think for one second that this wasn’t methodically preplanned, then step right up and join the P.T. Barnum suckers club! The Duck Dynasty controversy touches so many nerves because it taps into everything that Americans are divided on today. You Name it…homosexuality, race, religion, political correctness, freedom of speech, family, liberal versus conservative ideology and so on. It didn’t seem that long ago that A & E was a struggling network, barely making any impact and financially in trouble. Because of the success of Duck Dynasty, A & E is lighting cigars with thousand dollar bills. Perfectly played, the network suspends Phil Robertson indefinitely and denounces his comments…yet; A & E ran a Duck Dynasty marathon all week during Christmas in an effort to capitalize financially. And what of the new season? Don’t fret Bunkie; they had a number of episodes already in the can. The network announced that the show will be back in 2014 and because of the newfound controversy, you can bet that Duck Dynasty will be even more popular due to a larger audience who never watched a single episode. More importantly, the controversy means two things; it will generate more ratings and more dollars for A & E. You know the network executives are salivating. Bravo A & E, well played. P.T. Barnum would be proud.
