Queen stars release restored footage on new DVD

Queen stars Roger Taylor and Brian May are belatedly celebrating the 25th anniversary of the group’s greatest gigs with the release of a new two-DVD package featuring both London shows back in the summer of 1986.

The bandmates have worked with top film experts to lovingly restore footage shot at two very different sold out Wembley Stadium concerts, which they believe feature late frontman Freddie Mercury’s finest performances.

The “Bohemian Rhapsody” hitmakers played through driving rain on July 11, 1986 and in the summer sunshine the following day and now both gigs are being released on the new DVD package.

May says, “The Wembley concerts in 1986 were the pinnacle for us. We were at our height band-wise, and Freddie had developed this phenomenal way of dealing with stadium audiences.”

However, he admits looking back over the footage left him feeling a little sad: “None of us realized that this would be almost the last time we played together.”

In fact the group only performed two more shows together before Mercury took a break from the group to record a solo album, during which he discovered he had contracted AIDS. He died in November, 1991.

Queen Live at Wembley Stadium 2 DVD 25th Anniversary Edition will be released on March 12.
