The corruption trial of former governor Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, is entering the third week. The trial is underway with more testimony from government witnesses. The jury so far has heard from 26 prosecution witnesses. Monday’s evidence included 21 pictures of a smiling McDonnell driving Jonnie Williams’ Ferrari. Martin Kent, McDonnell’s chief of staff, testified that he heard about one trip from the office of the Executive Protection Unit, and that the joyride hurt the unit’s morale as it kept them from being able to do their job. Kent testified that when he asked the former governor not to do it again, “He didn’t push back.”
