Virginia’s Crime Totals Were Lower Last Year In Many Categories

Virginia’s latest crime totals have been released and most categories had lower numbers last year than what we saw in 2012. Murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault went down 1.6%. Homicide held steady, but fraud increased 7.6%. There were 123 hate crimes last year. Nearly two thirds were racially or ethnically motivated, and most of the rest involved bias toward someone’s religion or sexual orientation. The remaining 4% were attributed to mental and physical disabilities.
