Virginia gun sales hit an all-time high in 2013. The overall increase was nearly 11%, but sales were especially brisk in the first quarter. January sales were up by about 116% compared to the previous record. State Police logged background checks for nearly 480,000 gun transactions last year, topping the old record of just over 432,000 set in 2012. Gun sales during the most recent Black Friday also set a record, but overall sales in November and December dipped from 2012 figures for those months.
