Johns, a 6’3″, 215-pound prospect, chose the Hoos over offers from Maryland and NC State. Coach Mike London and company were the first to offer a scholarship, coming through in the summer of 2013 after watching Johns and his Gonzaga teammates perform in the 7-on-7 tournament held annually at UVa.

Following this year’s April 26 Nike Football Training Camp held at Centreville High School (Clifton, VA), Johns expressed appreciation in Virginia being the first school to offer and spoke highly of offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Steve Fairchild. Johns indicated, though, that the biggest factor in his decision would be finding “what place makes me feel more like family.”

According to Johns, Virginia does not plan on taking any more quarterbacks in this class. By class, the 2015 season scholarship breakdown at the quarterback position now appears as follows:

David Watford, Senior
– Greyson Lambert and Matt Johns, Juniors
– Brendan Marshall, Sophomore
– Corwin Cutler, Red-shirt Freshman or Sophomore
– Nick Johns, Freshman

Johns, who is rated a 3-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals, becomes the third prospect to commit to Virginia in the class of 2015, joining Altavista (VA) free safety Juan Thornhill and Plymouth Whitemarsh (Plymouth Meeting, PA) offensive lineman Ryan Bischoff. Click here to view Johns’ junior season highlights.
