The annual beginning to college football for the Atlantic Coast Conference will take place this weekend in Greensboro, North Carolina at the annual ACC Football Kickoff.  The Head Coach and two players from every team in the conference will head to Greensboro for the event.  UVA will be represented by tailback Kevin Parks, who is the leading returning rusher in the ACC coming off of a 1,000 yard season.  Parks will be joined by Anthony Harris, Virginia’s All American strong safety who was most recently named to the Jim Thorpe award watch list, which is for the nation’s best defensive back.  Harris appeared recently on WINA’s “The Best Seat In The House” to discuss what needs to change in order for Virginia Football to be successful this year.  ” Coming in last season [defensively] we were really confident and excited and then to be hit with the injuries I think it really took a toll on the defense and the secondary primarily.  You know we’re going down and then you’ve got freshman in there so we’re excited going into this season, we want to get everybody healthy, keep them healthy and just go out there and show that we’re a good secondary.”

Harris went on to discuss the change in the overall mentality of the team, something as a captain that he thinks will make a major difference.  “I think we’ve got a lot of great guys who show great leadership qualities coming to the forefront and I think that’s gonna be the biggest difference.   The impact of your upcoming season is always based upon the guys leading the team. From the outside looking in people see a lot of the same faces, but there is definitely a different demeanor and a different approach.  I think that we’re all coming together strong and very tight knit, we all believe in what we can do and no matter what happened last year we believe we can have the best of a season this year.”  You can hear the interview with Anthony Harris here: http://wina.com/best-seat/anthony-harris/

WINA’s series on Virginia Football continues on Thursday at 6pm, and listeners will have the opportunity to win tickets to the UCLA game.
