Uber is a four-letter word to some of our area’s existing cab companies…but it’s now a reality on the streets of the city and county. The Charlottesville Daily Progress notes the launch of the digital app based transportation service was preceded by two months of dickering with the DMV. That’s because the state agency contended Uber officials failed to get authority to operate in Virginia. Governor McAuliffe interceded on behalf of Uber earlier this summer.
Uber says its drivers charge around $6 for a trip from the Wertland Street area near the Corner to the Barracks Road Shopping Center.
