Traffic crashes were down in Albemarle County during 2013 compared to the year before. That includes alcohol-related accidents. Carter Johnson of the County Police says there were not as many¬†fatal crashes as a couple of years ago. Johnson says County Police are pleased with the public’s dedication to staying safe.

The figures for 2013 are included in this news release sent out by Albemarle Police:

The Albemarle County Police Department has compiled traffic statistics for the 2013 calendar year. In comparing this data to the 2012 calendar year, there has been a decrease in reportable crashes, reportable crashes with injury, reportable crashes involving alcohol, reportable crashes with injury involving alcohol and total crash numbers. We are encouraged by these statistics and the positive trend they represent. Traffic safety is one of the top priorities for the ACPD and we are dedicated to continuing our education and enforcement efforts in 2014. The Traffic Unit has focused on traffic education in high schools, traffic safety messages with the use of the electronic message boards in heavily traveled areas, public safety announcements, commercial motor vehicle enforcement and dedicated DUI and speed enforcement. In addition to our focus on traffic safety, we would like to thank the community for its dedication to safety. We appreciate you buckling up, putting away phones and distractions and choosing not to drink and drive. Thanks to all of our efforts, we are seeing a positive change on the roads in Albemarle County. Please help us continue with this safety trend in 2014.
