Virginians Have Noted Third Anniversary Of Louisa Earthquake

The third anniversary of the Louisa County earthquake. It happened Saturday, and officials are looking back on the recovery effort since 2011 and looking ahead to the future and the opening of a new Louisa County High School. During the fall, there will be a big earthquake drill conducted by emergency response teams in several states. Dawn Eischen of the Department of Emergency Services says the “Great Southeast Shakeout” is set for October 16th. Eischen says if you’re caught in an earthquake inside a building, drop to the ground, get under something sturdy, and hold on. If you’re outside, stay away from power lines, tall buildings and glass, and get low to the ground because it will be difficult to walk or run. The August 23rd, 2011 earthquake was centered in Mineral with a magnitude of 5.8.
