President Teresa Sullivan and area lawmakers have discussed what might happen during the 2014 General Assembly. Outgoing Governor Bob McDonnell’s budget recommendations include an additional $38 million for mental health services. Albemarle Delegate Rob Bell says we have learned the consequences of a personal mental health crisis in April 2007, thanks to a deranged student-gunman who killed 32 people at Virginia Tech. It’s a front burner item again following a violent attack a month ago that led to injuries for State Senate Creigh Deeds. The delegates and state senators also heard from Erica Viccellio of the Charlottesville Free Clinic. She says a possible expansion of the Medicaid rolls won’t have a big impact on many o her cleints. The General Assembly will convene January 8th.
