Storm Contributes To Accidents, Downed Trees

Storm Contributes To Accidents, Downed Trees

There were numerous accidents during a Monday afternoon storm cell. One left a driver trapped inside his truck when it was struck by a tree wrapped in power lines (picture courtesy of the Charlottesville Fire Department) at the intersection of Jefferson Park and Stribling Avenues. Jefferson Park Avenue had to be partially closed between Stribling and Sunset Avenues as crews wrestled Greg Bugg out of his truck and cleaned up all the clutter. Bugg says it wasn’t luck but, instead, the good Lord saved him. Amazingly, Bugg suffered only a scratch or two. Other trees were downed, as well, including one in the 1100-block of Jackson Drive in the Southwood trailer park. Firefighters also had to deal with a series of elevetor rescues thanks to power outages leaving things “kinda hectic,” according to Charlottesville Fire Chief Charles Werner. More rain is expected Wednesday and Thursday, with Thursday’s storms to include potentially drenching rain.
