A female soldier who shot herself early Monday at Fort Lee near Petersburg died later in the day at VCU Hospital in Richmond. The woman had a gun inside a key building at Fort Lee and turned the weapon on herself, but she did not wound anybody else. The now deceased soldier has not been identified. The Army believes she fired one shot in a four-story building that serves as the headquarters for the Army’s Combined Arms Support Command. Fort Lee went on temporary lockdown and the all-clear signal was given a short time after the incident. Fort Lee is 25 miles south of Richmond near Petersburg.
