Shed Fire Delays Trip Home For Many Stony Point Students

For many kids who attend Stony Point Elementary School, the Friday afternoon trip home was more of an ordeal than usual. A shed caught fire at around 2 p.m. in the 3800 block of Stony Point Road and 20 North was blocked while crews responded. Albemarle County officials had kids go to the Stony Point Fire Department headquarters so they could board school buses or get picked up by their parents or guardians. There was a separate complication when a tractor-trailer tried to reverse its direction near the fire scene, and the driver ended up hitting a utility pole. There were no injuries but the county fire marshal’s office estimates the damages to the shed at around $15,000.
