Federal money for a student safety effort runs out in two weeks. The Albemarle school board has been given a final report card on it. June Jenkins, manager of the Safe Schools program, says one target has been bullying. Jenkins says it’s working. She says there was a recent decline of 68% in the rate of bullying in the middle schools. Jenkins says the effort also included mental health counseling for students. Funding for continuing the Safe Schools program was not included in next year’s county schools budget.
