Western Bypass Arguments Revisited Before MPO

Western Bypass Arguments Revisited Before MPO

Critics of the proposed Western Bypass want to convince local officials to become cheerleaders for other road projects. Albemarle resident George Larie made his appeal Thursday to the Metropolitan Planning Organization, which focuses on transportation issues. Larie and other bypass critics are looking for supporters of Places 29.  Businessman Henry Weinshenck says he’s also read a February 18th letter from the Federal Highway Administration, which asks critical questions about the bypass. Members of the MPO plan to wait and see what actions the Commonwealth Transportation Board will take during a March 19th meeting in Richmond. The MPO Policy group includes Julia Monteith of the  University of Virginia (pictured left), Mac Lafferty of the Albemarle Planning Commission (pictured second from left), Kristin Szakos of City Council (pictured center), Ann Mallek of the White Hall District (pictured second from right) and Brad Sheffield (pictured right).
