Looking towards the future of Virginia Basketball from a recruiting standpoint, it’s needless to say the class 2016 will be a critical group for the Cavaliers moving forward.

Currently Virginia’s largest class is its set of rising juniors including Malcolm Brogdon, Anthony Gill, Mike Tobey, Justin Anderson, and Evan Nolte. Thus a wealth of scholarships will be available after the next two seasons move into the books.

Recruiting insider of Cavscorner.com, Brad Franklin, joined the Best Seat in the House to discuss prospects for the class of 2016 including Payton Pritchard who just received an offer from Virginia.

“Pritchard was a guy at top 100 camp recently in Charlottesville who really impressed me,” Franklin said. “He really impressed me mostly with his ability off the dribble as well as his ability to make quick decisions and get to the rim.”

Pritchard has already received offers from a number of other programs including Indiana, Iowa, UCLA, Villanova, and Wisconsin.

Plenty of recruitment looms large for Tony Bennett and his staff in the month of July.

“In the sports world, July is a dead period. But in basketball recruiting, July is the busiest month there is,” Franklin said.

“There will be three evaluation weekends coming up starting next week where coaches will be out on the road seeing players in person…That’s the time frame when guys impress and earn offers.”

Concerning Virginia’s flexibility, Franklin stated, “Because there is more space they have a little bit more wiggle room because of that you can jump into recruitment earlier.”
