There was a showing of the 1970 film Patton that featured a Wise County native, the late George C. Scott, as General George S. Patton. There was also an event at the Paramount Theater honoring World War Two survivors, including General Ed Rowny, onetime IRS Commissioner Mortimer Caplin, and local D-Day survivor Carl “Chubby” Proffitt.
