A North Carolina resident was charged Wednesday night with having a loaded gun at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. The Transportation Security Administration says one of its officers staffing the checkpoint X-ray machine detected a .38 caliber handgun (pictured) in the man’s carry-on bag. The TSA says the gun had five rounds of ammunition in it. The resident of Monroe, North Carolina was cited on a local weapons charge. The TSA reminds travelers that bringing firearms to the checkpoint can result in possible criminal charges or civil penalties. Weapons are not permitted in carry-on bags but can be transported in checked bags if they’re unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline. (Photo courtesy of TSA)
