A former member of Virginia’s congressional delegation will have a Navy vessel named in his honor. The Newport News shipyard will christen the Navy’s newest submarine as the John W. Warner. The ceremony honoring the 81-year-old Warner will happen on Saturday. Warner (pictured) was a Navy enlisted man during World War Two, served as a Navy Secretary during the Nixon administration, and was a past chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. A road that currently links East Rio Road in Albemarle to Melbourne Road in the city is also named for Warner.
