More Officers Will Patrol Downtown Mall Fridays And Saturdays

Charlottesville Police will assign more patrol officers to the Downtown Mall on Friday and Saturday  nights.   It’s a response to complaints about late night incidents.  John Heyden of Westwood Road has urged City Councilors to spend more time catching criminals and less time on what he views as frivolous matters. Heyden places last year’s debates over drones, marijuana, and the Occupy Charlottesville movement in that category.   City Manager Maurice Jones and the City Council are getting ready for another budget cycle. They expect to take a closer look at the Mall Ambassadors program that began a year ago.
