The legal teams who are defending former Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife at a Richmond trial want to burst the bubble of federal prosecutors who say they were scheming together to accept bribes from their onetime friend Jonnie Williams. The lawyers for the former First Couple of Virginia say they had a long-broken marriage, and Maureen McDonnell (pictured left) had developed a crush on the businessman who is the prosecution’s star witness. Williams is being portrayed in this trial as the great manipulator. Bob McDonnell (pictured right) left the Governor’s Mansion in January.
