Man Charged With Rape On JPA

UVA Police have charged a man with rape following an alleged incident New Year’s Night on Jefferson Park Avenue. 27-year-old Derrick Leon Johnson, Sr. (pictured) of Charlottesville was arrested after police investigated a report of a sexual assault shortly before 9 p.m. on January 1st. UVA Police say it happened in the 1200-block of JPA. Police say the woman who was attacked was treated for injuries and released from UVA Hospital. Johnson was arrested Friday at 145 McCormick Road. He’s being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail and is scheduled to have a bond hearing Monday.
