The University of Virginia has lost one of its major benefactors. Ruth Sacks Caplin was 93 when she died last week in Washington, D.C. She was the wife of onetime IRS Commissioner and former Board of Visitors’ member Mortimer Caplin (he’s the man with the bowtie, photographed during the 2012 groundbreaking for UVA’s Ruth Caplin Theater). The Caplins recently donated $4 million to establish the Ruth Caplin Theater as part of the UVA Arts Grounds.
