UVA Head Football Coach Mike London is once again putting on a bone marrow drive at the University.  The drive will be held at the UVA Amphitheater from 10am to 2pm on Monday, April 21st.  London has talked often about his motivation for undertaking this community initiative.  He talked about it on WINA’s “The Best Seat in the House”  on Thursday evening.  ” We try to be champions in the community….with the physical gifts and tools that these guys have, they need to and they should give back in a way that they can serve the community.  Getting involved with the boys and girls club, children’s hospital, local elementary school…whatever it may be, it’s important that we get into community service events it shows that you can be servant leaders here as well.  Since I’ve been here we’ve had four players that have been designated as a match.  A student here on grounds at UVA a few years ago that was a match.  Trying to champion a cause that doesn’t have anything to do with scoring touchdowns or blocking…it has to do with serving the community that we’re in, and a need that a specific section of our population is desiring for.”

The process is an easy one, and doesn’t take much time, donors give some personal contact information, and allow the sample collectors to take a cotton swab from their inner cheek to obtain a sample.  London went on to discuss his football team in the interview, including the possibility of naming a starter.  ”  The quarterback situation is starting to clear itself out because I thought Greyson Lambert played well….and before we announce anything we want to make sure that every player knows where they stand, what they have to work on and the expectations that we have of them.  We’ll go through that process, and if the announcement comes, it will come won’t be much fanfare to it.  The fact that it’s important to get this team better, it’s important to fix the things we needed to fix in order to be competitive on the field and we all know that the quarterback position is an integral part to that, and we’ll get it remedied as soon as possible.”
