The Louisa County man who’s become the Libertarian nominee for the Seventh District seat in Congress did some weekend campaigning in Charlottesville. James Carr is the Libertarian who’s competing with a pair of Randolph-Macon College professors, Republican Dave Brat and Democrat Jack Trammell. (the photo is courtesy of the James Carr for Congress campaign.) Carr says his campaign benefits from the efforts of a fellow Libertarian, Robert Sarvis, who ran for Governor in 2013. The 37-year-old Carr says he shared his philosophy with many potential constituents while he gathered petition signatures to qualify for the November 4th ballot. Louisa and Orange are in the Seventh House District, which has joined the Eighth and Tenth Districts as areas of Virginia where there will be no incumbent on the fall ballot. Brat upset 14-year veteran Eric Cantor of Henrico County in a Tuesday Republican primary for the GOP nomination. Frank Wolf (R-Vienna) of the Tenth District and Jim Moran (D-Alexandria) of the Eighth District are voluntarily ending their long careers in Congress.
