An increase in admissions to mental health facilities. State officials say it has a lot to do with the increased awareness following the attack against State Senator Creigh Deeds. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Western State Hospital admitted 23 patients under temporary detention orders since January 1st. That compares to only six admissions during the last half of 2013. Mental health officials say they don’t know how long the surge will last.
