Higher Real Estate Tax Rate Proposed For Albemarle

Higher Real Estate Tax Rate Proposed For Albemarle

A higher tax rate in Albemarle. County Executive Tom Foley (pictured) is calling for a hike of 1.7 cents in the real estate tax rate in his proposed budget. That would send the Albemarle property tax from 76.6 cents to 78.3 cents for every $100 assessed value. Foley says the hike is needed to help offset the money shortfall facing the school system and to cover requirements for water quality. Even with the extra money, the school division still has a funding gap of $5.8 million. Foley wants to give county employees a 2% pay raise, and three more police officers would be hired. You can give feedback during the first public hearing that will be held this coming Monday, February 24th at 6 p.m. at the County Office Building.
