GOP Says No To Medicaid Expansion

GOP leaders of the House of Delegates say they are firmly opposed to the Democrats’ proposals to expand the Virginia Medicaid program. House Speaker Bill Howell (pictured) says he’s optimistic that Governor McAuliffe and General Assembly Democrats will back down from their version of a state budget that expands the Medicaid rolls. Republicans have also sent a letter to Democratic U.S. Senator Mark Warner asking him to support their position. Warner condemned national Republicans who forced a federal government shutdown last October to cut off funding for what the GOP calls Obamacare. Howell says McAuliffe is using similar tactics in Virginia’s Medicaid debate.
