Republican leaders of the General Assembly are planning a late September session to debate whether to expand the Medicaid rolls. The start date for the extra session would begin the week of September 22nd. House Speaker Bill Howell (R- Stafford County) and State Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment (R- James City County) say they committed themselves earlier this year to have a full and fair debate on Medicaid expansion. Both Howell (pictured) and Norment are personally opposed to expanding Medicaid, which Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe has made one of his top priorities.
