Fluvanna Man Formally Arrested On Dog Fighting Charges

After issuing warrants earlier, Fluvanna County authorities have now arrested a man accused of being involved with dog fighting. 39-year-old Brenton Lemont Mathis (pictured) faces eight felony counts of fighting dogs for sport, a felony firearms charge, and eight misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. On January 16th, investigators searched the Mathis property on Hayden Martin Road and seized ten dogs. Mathis will have a hearing January 28th in Fluvanna General District Court. Mathis was taken into custody Wednesday without incident.
