Former Governor Bob McDonnell says federal prosecutors have stretched the law to the breaking point. McDonnell reacted Tuesday night to a 14-count felony indictment against him and his wife Maureen. McDonnell says he did not violate the law and plans to use every available resource to fight what he calls an unjust overreach of the federal government. A spokesman for the U.S. Justice Department says the 14-count indictment includes charges of conspiracy, bribery and wire fraud.  The allegations stem from the McDonnells’  involvement with Jonnie Williams, who created a dietary supplement company. Justice Department lawyers accuse the McDonnells of giving favorable treatment to help Williams’ Star Scientific Corporation. McDonnell says he deeply regrets accepting legal gifts and loans from Williams. He says they were repaid last summer. The McDonnells are scheduled to appear Friday in a Richmond federal courtroom.
