One man is dead after the car he was riding in spun out of control and slammed into a tree in Madison County. It happened late Thursday morning when 22-year-old Kimberly Erin Schwaner of Charlottesville lost control in a left curve on Route 231 near the Madison-Rappahannock County line. The car spun counter-clockwise before going off the side of the road and smashing passenger-side into the tree. 27-year-old James Anthony Tubbs of Waynesboro has died. Investigators say speed could have been a factor.
