Many Albemarle County students, parents and teachers want complete funding for School Superintendent Pam Moran’s more than $164 million budget proposal. They mobilized for a Monday night board of supervisors’ public hearing¬† (pictured).¬†Parents say they don’t want any increases in class sizes at their children’s schools. They were joined by advocates for the local public defenders, a representative of the Jefferson Area Board for Aging, and supporters of environmental programs. Longtime county resident Charlotte Hogue told the supervisors they should not boost the property tax rate. She says the county staff can find ways to trim spending. County Executive Tom Foley has proposed a 1.7 cent increase for every $100 of assessed value. Foley and the supervisors will hold several budget work sessions over the next few weeks.
