Democrats have won Tuesday’s special election for a state senate seat in northern Virginia. Jennifer Wexton of Loudoun County won 53% of the vote in a three-candidate race. Wexton’s rivals were Republican John Whitbeck and Independent Joe May, who used to be a GOP Delegate. Wexton will fill a vacancy that was created after her fellow Democrat Mark Herring was elected Attorney General. She expects to take her seat in the State Senate (pictured) by Friday afternoon.
