Debate Has Started Up Again Over Abortion Clinic Regulations

There was renewed debate Thursday over new abortion clinic regulations. Governor McAuliffe (pictured) has recently directed the Virginia Board of Health to review the regulations. McAuliffe also appointed five new board members last month who support abortion rights. The regulations that were adopted in 2013 require existing abortion clinics to meet the same building standards as newly constructed hospitals. Those who voted for the new regulations say they are intended to protect women’s health. Critics argue the intent is to force clinic operators to close their doors. The Board of Health has a new public comment period.
