The mayor of Culpeper is facing a misdemeanor sexual battery charge. State Police charged Culpeper mayor Chip Coleman Tuesday. Details have not been released. Coleman’s attorney, Rex Edwards, tells the Associated Press says his client denies the allegations and will plead not guilty. An initial appearance in Culpeper General District Court is scheduled for June 4th. Coleman was elected mayor in 2010 but lost a re-election bid last week.
