City councilors have approved an ordinance that will let the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad charge for ambulance rides. They voted 5-0 Monday night for the new arrangement. City Fire Chief Charles Werner (pictured) and members of the council say there are no immediate plans to bill anyone for services. The ordinance does have language that calls for compassionate billing. CARS representatives say no one would be denied service if he or she can’t pay for an ambulance.
