City Councilors are learning more about the different experiences of African-American and white kids in the juvenile justice system. Human Services Director Mike Murphy (pictured left) says those who work with local juveniles do not get many referrals from the public schools. The council also heard Thursday from Leon Andrews (pictured next to Murphy) of the National League of Cities. Andrews’ organization is helping Charlottesville and ten other cities to learn more about racial disparities. Charlottesville is the smallest community that’s getting help from the National League of Cities.
